Charge Redistribution and Spin Polarization Driven by Correlation Induced Electron Exchange in Chiral Molecules

نویسندگان

چکیده

Chiral induced spin selectivity is a phenomenon that has been attributed to chirality, spin-orbit interactions, and non-equilibrium conditions, while the role of electron exchange correlations have investigated only marginally until very recently. However, as recent experiments show chiral molecules acquire finite spin-polarization merely by being in contact with metallic surface, these results suggest play more crucial for emergence than previously thought. Here, it demonstrated molecular vibrations give rise charge redistribution accompanied when coupling molecule non-magnetic metal. It is, moreover, shown enantiomer separation, due intimately related can be understood terms proposed model.

Charge-induced spin polarization in thiophene oligomers

Charge-induced spin polarization in small organic molecules is a key factor for spin transport and magnetic effects in related organic devices. In this work, we study spin polarization in charged thiophene oligomer molecules by calculating the magnetic moment with density functional theory. It is found that the emergence and variation of the net magnetic moment is related to both the amount of ...

Correlation energy and spin polarization in the 2D electron gas.

The ground-state energy of the two-dimensional uniform electron gas has been calculated with a fixed-node diffusion Monte Carlo method, including backflow correlations, for a wide range of electron densities as a function of spin polarization. We give a simple analytic representation of the correlation energy which fits our simulation data and includes several known high- and low-density limits...

Continuum model for chiral induced spin selectivity in helical molecules.

A minimal model is exactly solved for electron spin transport on a helix. Electron transport is assumed to be supported by well oriented p(z) type orbitals on base molecules forming a staircase of definite chirality. In a tight binding interpretation, the spin-orbit coupling (SOC) opens up an effective π(z) - π(z) coupling via interbase p(x,y) - p(z) hopping, introducing spin coupled transport....

Electron transport through molecules: Gate-induced polarization and potential shift

We analyze the effect of a gate on the conductance of molecules by separately evaluating the gate-induced polarization and the potential shift of the molecule relative to the leads. The calculations use ab initio density functional theory combined with a Green function method for electron transport. For a general view, we study several systems: s1d atomic chains of C or Al sandwiched between Al...

Electron Spectrum in Nuclear Spin Polarization Induced Periodic Structures

The novel meso-nucleo-spinics effect of the nuclear spin polarization induced periodic structure creation in a low-dimensional electron system is studied theoretically. It is shown that the periodically distributed nuclear magnetization results in the periodic hyperfine magnetic field which, in turn, creates a periodic electron structure. The electron wave functions and energy spectrum for such...
